Breast Care Nurses
Irene worked in the area of breast and plastics for several years, during which time breast reconstruction was still in its infancy. Her interests in breast disease expanded when she was invited to work at BreastScreen as a breast counsellor, supporting women from initial imaging through to a diagnosis. Having worked at the Alfred Blood Disease and Cancer Services for several years she has had the opportunity to develop expert knowledge in the area of breast cancer and treatment modalities.
Since 2000 Irene has had the opportunity to work as an accredited Breast Care Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Mercy Breast Unit. She is very passionate about my role as she is able to educate, advocate for and support women with breast disease, giving them a sense of control and empowerment, and making a difference to their wellbeing.
Irene's qualifications include a Bachelor of Nursing from Deakin University and Breast Care Nurse accreditation from La Trobe University (and Cancer Council). She continues to learn and develop professionally, participating in various breast presentations, committees, cancer networks and supporting the wider community.
Irene's and her husband have two lovely adult children whom we are extremely proud of. They enjoy weekends kayaking with friends, being with nature, cooking, travelling, trying new ventures......and also of high importance...a cuppa with scones!
