Dr Matthew Ng
MBBS FRACS Breast Surgeon
Dr Matthew Ng is a specialist breast surgeon with public appointments at Monash Health and Eastern Health. He manages the full spectrum of breast conditions, with a particular interest in oncoplastic breast surgery and the surgical management of breast cancer.
After completing his MBBS at the University of Melbourne, Matthew undertook General Surgery training through the Austin/Northern training hub, obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2022. He subsequently completed fellowship training at Northern Health, St Vincent’s Hospital and Canberra Health, before completing the BreastSurgANZ Post Fellowship Training Program in 2026. During this time, he also completed a Master of Surgery with a thesis examining cavity marking following breast-conserving surgery.
Matthew has experience looking after patients with complex benign and malignant breast conditions. His practice includes breast-conserving surgery, including oncoplastic breast surgery such as therapeutic mammoplasty and chest wall perforator flaps, as well as mastectomy including nipple- and skin-sparing techniques.
Matthew believes that there is no single approach to breast surgery that is right for every patient. He takes the time to understand each patient's individual circumstances, preferences and priorities, and to explain the reasons behind treatment recommendations. His aim is for patients to have a clear understanding of their options so that they can make informed decisions about the treatment that is right for them.
Matthew is actively involved in surgical education, teaching breast surgery fellows and general surgery registrars, as well as medical students and junior doctors.
At Eastern Health, Matthew also has a practice in endocrine and general surgery. His endocrine practice includes thyroid and parathyroid surgery. He also welcomes referrals for common general surgical conditions, including hernias, gallbladder disease and skin lesion excisions.
